Industrial Paramedic

$6,000.00 Sign On Bonus

Job Summary:

The basic function of the Industrial Paramedic is to provide medical care and transportation for a patient at the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) level, within their scope of practice, as stipulated by State of Indiana, Department of Community Health. The job includes obtaining the appropriate patient care information, billing information, and completing any additional forms or duties as stipulated by the Company. This individual must interface with other employees, professionals from our accounts, as well as patients and their families.

The Industrial Paramedic has full responsibility and accountability for the prehospital care for the patient, including all necessary medical and billing documentation.

The Industrial Paramedic at Superior is a clinical practitioner with an expanded scope of practice, providing emergency response, medical assessment, occupational health services, drug and alcohol testing, medical referral, and emergency transport as needed for the employees, contractors, and visitors of the Arcelor Mittal Steel Mill in Burns Harbor Indiana. The Industrial Paramedic Staffs an ambulance along with an Industrial EMT on plant site at the Arcelor Mittal Burns Harbor Fire Station, treats walk-in patients with minor illnesses and injuries, and uses telemedicine to consult with other health professionals as required. The Industrial Paramedic works in cooperation with site supervisors, security and emergency services personnel, health and safety personnel, and off-site medical professionals. This position requires the use of critical thinking skills, independent judgement and decision-making adaptability.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Must demonstrate adequate levels of skill in all areas required of a Paramedic, including the ability to move patients up and down stairs, in and out of the ambulance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Paramedic is responsible for the provision of safe and appropriate medical care within his/her scope of practice, and the current standard of care.
  • The Paramedic is accountable to the Medical Control Authority for the EMS system in which Superior Ambulance is operating.
  • He/she is accountable to the Station Manager. The paramedic is empowered to provide safe and appropriate care and comfort for the patient (our customers) within their scope of practice.
  • To provide appropriate patient care as stipulated in their training as a Paramedic.
  • To provide safe transportation, to include accurately discerning street names through map reading, the ability to correctly distinguish house numbers, and addresses of business locations, in the most expedient manner, is essential.
  • To appropriately assess a patient and accurately convey the condition to other medical professionals.
  • To provide an accurate written report describing a patient's condition, medical history, and the treatment provided.
  • To provide appropriate documentation for billing information.
  • To maintain the vehicle in sanitary condition, in addition to monitoring all fluid levels and gauges.
  • The Paramedic is responsible for the provision of safe and appropriate medical care within his/her scope of practice, and the current standard of care.
  • The Paramedic is accountable to the Medical Control Authority for the EMS system in which Superior Ambulance is operating.
  • He/she is accountable to the Station Manager. The paramedic is empowered to provide safe and appropriate care and comfort for the patient (our customers) within their scope of practice.
  • 911 response to Fire, EMS, Hazmat, and other emergency situations
  • Provide medical, trauma, and first aid care to ill and injured employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Carry out physician orders in respect to patient care and disposition as required
  • Complete and submit forms, patient care reports, and other documents as required
  • Ensure privacy for patients and confidentiality of personal information and medical records
  • Provide Urine Drug and Breath Alcohol testing of employees and contractors
  • Complete inventory, receiving and stocking of medical equipment, supplies, and medications of the ambulance and fire station clinic.
  • Maintain cleanliness and response readiness of the ambulance and fire station clinic
  • Other duties as assigned by Industrial EMS Manager or Security and Emergency Services Duty Captain.

 

Measurements of Performance:

  • Knowledge and ability to teach other Paramedics their role and their job responsibilities.
  • Their ability to perform their essential skills as a Paramedic.
  • Their ability to provide the necessary and appropriate documentation of the patient care that is provided.
  • Proper documentation of the essential billing information.
  • Their ability to communicate and interface with other medical professionals, customers, and their families.
  • Their ability to work with co-workers.
  • Their ability to physically complete the necessary tasks essential to the job of a Paramedic.
  • Overall performance is satisfactory.

Qualifications:   

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Indiana and/or Indiana Paramedic Licensure.
  • Must have successfully passed Company's written and practical exam, and successfully completed the interview process
  • ACLS Certification 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PHTLS/BTLS Certification
  • National registry
  • Prior Industrial Paramedic experience
